MANILA, Philippines — The Luzon Economic Corridor (LEC) project is expected to continue under the fresh administration of US President Donald Trump, according to economic czar Frederick Go.

In an ambush interview in Malacañang on Monday, Go was asked about the prospects of LEC under the Trump administration – if the project will push through since it was first announced during the outgoing Biden administration.

“Well, that’s what the trilateral partners are telling us,” the presidential adviser on investments and economic affairs told reporters.

In April, President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., Japanese Prime Minister Kishida, and US President Joe Biden announced their partnerships for the development of the Luzon Economic Corridor that will support the connectivity of Subic Bay, Clark, Manila, and Batangas.

The trilateral commitment aims to speed up coordinated investments in high-impact infrastructure projects, clean energy and semiconductor supply chains and deployments, agribusiness, and civilian port upgrades at Subic Bay.

In the same interview, Go also revealed that other countries expressed interests in joining the LEC project.

“So, we’re now in discussion of how to make the corridor more inclusive to the other countries that are interested in participating,” he said, but did not mention any country.

Go further said the Philippines will push for trade agreement requests between the Philippines and the US in relation to the Luzon Economic Corridor.

However, he refused to give details on these requests for now.
