MANILA, Philippines — Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla has recommended trimming down the number of generals in the Philippine National Police due to the redundancy of certain positions.
In a press briefing on Tuesday, Remulla said he aims to cut the number of generals from 138 to 25.
Article continues after this advertisement“That’s my plan, yes. We’re gonna let them retire. That’s one of my recommendations to flatten the organization,” he said.

Remulla said that this is one of his priority recommendations as the new chief of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
Article continues after this advertisement“There are a lot of generals now without commands. If you look at it, mayroon tayong APC, area police command, wala namang tao sa ilalim nila, ‘di ba? So marami tayong mga redundancies na kailangan i trim down,” he explained.

Remulla replaced Benhur Abalos Jr. as DILG chief after the latter resigned to run as a senator in the 2025 elections.
